ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Bryan Schwartz has lived and prayed with Jewish
communities in 28 countries and more than 100 towns and villages
during
the last fifteen years. He has recently spoken to audiences regarding
world Jewry in four languages on five continents. His "Scattered Among
the Nations" exhibit with Sandy Carter and Jay Sand, featuring stories
and photographs from their book, premiered at New York's Center for
Jewish History in February 2003. Their Jews of Color: In Color!
exhibits will show in 2005-2006 in Washington, DC, the San Francisco
Bay Area, and at New York's Congregation Emanu-El -- the world's largest
Jewish congregation. Mr. Schwartz's articles on isolated Jewish
communities have appeared recently from Jerusalem to New York, Sao
Paolo
to San Francisco, in such varied publications as Israel's news daily
Ha'aretz, Hadassah Magazine, B'nai B'rith Magazine, The Jerusalem
Report and New York's Jewish Forward.

Sandy Carter has photographed nuns in France and South Korea for the Little Sisters of the Poor, Roma (Gypsies) in Slovakia for the Roma
Foto Projekt and several of the world's most isolated Jewish communities in India for Scattered Among the Nations. Her book with famed Canadian photojournalist, Ted Grant, Women in Medicine. A Celebration of Their
Work, was released in 2004 by Firefly Books Ltd. Some of the
publications
featuring her photography include the Photographer's Forum, Hadassah
Magazine, Photo Life, Leica USA, The Vancouver Sun, The B'nai B'rith
International Jewish Monthly and recently in the launch issue of C-ing
Magazine. Her work for the Roma Foto Projekt was exhibited at both
Park
Point University in Pittsburgh and Harvard University in Massachusetts
and
her work is part of permanent exhibitions at both the North Shore
Medical
University Hospital and the Long Island Jewish General in New York.
Ms.
Carter lives in Anacortes, Washington where she specializes in
documentary
style photography.
Jay Sand is one of the world's leading
experts on black African Jewry. Since visiting
Jewish communities in six African countries
during 1999-2000, Jay has delivered multimedia,
multicultural Jews of Africa
presentations throughout North
America, lecturing at synagogues,
community centers, youth groups, schools,
universities and museums. He has published
photos of African-Jewish communities in
Hadassah and Bridges magazines. Jay graduated
the University of Pennsylvania Phi Beta Kappa
and summa cum laude with an honors degree
in History.
